Course Overview
The B.Ed. Spl.Ed. programme aims to develop Special Education teachers/Educators for children with disabilities for various settings. The programme will enable them to acquire knowledge and develop competencies and skills to impart education and training effectively to children with disability

The B.Ed Special Education (Multiple Disabilities) programme is a 2 year full-time programme.
Each semester is spread over a period of 100 working days- 36 hours in a week spreading over 5 or 6 working days in a week, excluding the period of examination and admission.

About the Course
Vidya Sagar had been offering a one year Post Graduate Diploma in Special Education, Multiple Disabilities since 1990 to create the much needed humanpower to work with persons with Cerebral Palsy and multiple disabilities. This course was recognized by the RCI and Affiliated first to the Mother Teresa University and later the University of Madras.

As the RCI guidelines underwent a change, per the latest directive we have been running a two year full time B.Ed in Special Education, Multiple Disabilities, as a College of Special Education, Affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University and recognized by the RCI. The course offers opportunities to learn about neurological impairments and sensory disabilities.

Professionals with expertise and rich experience from Vidya Sagar and Guest lecturers from varied fields teach and mentor students. A student enrolled for the course with us gets an enriched learning experience and scope for hands on work much beyond the classroom and course content. They also imbibe the organization’s values and culture to become ‘Caring Professionals’.
Course Content
The curriculum of the B.Ed. Special Education (Multiple Disabilities) programme consists of fourteen compulsory theory courses, one elective course out of six elective courses and engagement with the field (school internship, courses on Enhancing Professional Capacities (EPC), and an online course).
Careers and Employability
Our teachers evolve as thorough professional special educators with both confidence and expertise to work with persons with special needs in all setting. On completion of the course, a person can work in a mainstream school or special school, start their own rehab centre, take up teacher eligibility test for Government jobs, or do higher studies and get into research.
This course is the equivalent of B.Ed General education in the state of Tamil Nadu.
Faculty
K S Uma is the course In-charge and Coordinator. She is a HRD-A teacher educator with over two decades of experience. She has conducted training programmes in many parts of India and abroad.

Kalpana Rao is the Principal of the school and the Head of the Communication Department. She is an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) expert with three decades of experience.
​
T A Simy is the Head of Physiotherapy, an NDT trained therapist and trainer with over two decades of experience. Her specialisations are in positioning, seating and wheel chair assessments.
Jefferson Leckler is a senior Physiotherapist trained in the UK. He specializes in Neurological Physiotherapy. He has been working in the field for over 15 years.

Chitra Ravichandran is the Coordinator for Home Management. She is a parent professional with over two decades of experience as a special educator working with students across ages and parent training.
​
Vijayashree Ramesh is the Coordinator for Workforce Development. She is a professional with over three decades of experience working with adults. Her area of expertise is vocational rehabilitation.
​
M Jeeva is a low vision expert in charge of the Vision Centre. She has trained with Perkins school for the Blind, USA and has more than fifteen years of experience in low vision rehabilitation for children with multiple disabilities.
​
Sarita Kamble is the head of Occupational Therapy with ten years experience. Her special area of interest is adaptations to enable function.

Abida Anwar is the Coordinator for Social Work and Counseling. She has over 6 years of experience working with children and adults and mentoring interns.
